Our Programs

The Center for Cognitive Education has developed program structures which encourage the change processes initiated and supported by various referring agencies. It is our intent to provide quality and low cost services to assist clients in developing and maintaining responsible patterns in living. We strive to compliment and support the missions of our referring agencies. Our mutual goal is help create a safe community and to provide an atmosphere and opportunity to facilitate positive change. The success of our program depends on communication with referring agencies in an effort to maintain a collaborative effort to accomplish this goal.

Sex Offender Treatment Program (Adult)

The Center for Cognitive Education offers a sex offender treatment program which revolves around the central treatment goal of decreasing victimization. Philosophically, it is viewed that those who have offended sexually have a behavioral disorder - one which they can learn to control, but not cure. The development of internal management, or self-control, is an underlying theme in all of the work conducted with the sex offender. However, internal management is often not enough to ensure that the sex offender benefits from treatment. Therefore, a level of external management is also necessary. To that end, working with the Community Supervision and Corrections staff, as well as others involved in the clients life who can affirm or deny the reports given of responsible and/or irresponsible behaviors, is strongly emphasized. The treatment interventions used are based on cognitive-behavioral and reality-oriented theories. Learning adaptive pro-social coping skills, geared toward breaking their offending patterns, is further stressed as part of the therapeutic process.

Batters Intervention and Prevention Program BIPP (Individual Sessions)

Length of BIPP services may vary depending on location. Currently our Austin office location offers the following Levels, with 2- hour sessions: Low/18 weeks; Moderate/24 weeks; Severe/36 weeks; Critical/52 weeks. Refer to the Program Enrollment Forms for additional BIPP information at each location. Participants attend a minimum of 24 one and one half hour sessions. Participants are assisted in taking full accountability for their battering behavior as the result of using irresponsible patterns in thinking and interacting which have caused harm to family members and others. Harmful thinking patterns and behaviors are challenged and responsible alternative ways of thinking and interacting are developed. The ultimate goal of the program is "Stop the Violence". This is an open ended group which meets weekly. This program is appropriate to only address specific offenses involving violence within a current or past intimate partner relationship (husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, ex-husband/ex-wife, etc). Focus is placed on taking accountability for the battering behavior with the goal of stopping future acts of violence. Considering certain circumstances, BIPP is delivered via individual sessions. This type of delivery has to be given special approval due to accreditation considerations.

As of February 2011, our BIPP has received a "Accreditation" status by TDCJ- CJAD which designates our agency as an approved BIPP provider. We are also currently listed on TDCJ - CJAD's website.
